Your Rhine River Cruise Schedule

Arrive in Amsterdam and board your luxurious river cruise ship. Meet your fellow travelers tonight at the Welcome Dinner. (D)
After breakfast, your tour of Amsterdam begins with a scenic canal cruise through the city known as the “Venice of the North.” See the tall narrow homes lining the water, the Skinny Bridge, and the house where Anne Frank and her family lived in hiding during WWII. Later, enjoy a panoramic city tour that will show you many key sights, including a photo stop at the windmill famously painted by Rembrandt. You’ll have some free time to explore on your own before returning to the ship. The ship departs this afternoon, en route to Germany. (B,L,D)
Enjoy a guided tour of Cologne this morning, which will take you to the Old Town, Cathedral Square, and the city’s majestic 13th-century Gothic cathedral. Afterwards, you’ll have free time to visit some of the local shops or have a coffee at a quaint café. Late tonight, the ship cruises to Koblenz and moors overnight. (B,L,D)
This morning, cruise through the picturesque Rhine Gorge, admiring its many castles and fortress ruins and the legendary Lorelei Rock. Arrive in the winemaking town of Rüdesheim where you will enjoy an afternoon wine tasting with a local vintner. Or, take a Gondola Ride above the town to see the Niederwalddenkmal Statue. Later you’ll have free time to explore the Drosselgasse, the town’s most famous and charming street, a narrow passage lined with shops and taverns. This evening, visit Siegfried’s Mechanical Instrument Museum, home to a remarkable collection of old robotic and self-playing musical instruments. The ship sails overnight. (B,L,D)
Arrive around noon in Speyer, one of Germany’s oldest cities, known for its cathedral, numerous churches and the 13th-century Altpörtel (“Old Gate”). Choose either a city tour of Speyer or a half-day excursion to historic Heidelberg, where you will visit the red-walled castle with its Great Vat (a 49,000-gallon 18th-century wine cask) and see beautiful views of the Neckar Valley and city below. This evening, the ship continues onward to Strasbourg, France. (B,L,D)
Capital city of the Alsace region in northeastern France, Strasbourg is situated on the Rhine at the German border. After arriving this morning, enjoy a panoramic city tour that will take you past the Orangery, the town’s oldest park, the European Parliament, and the Place de la Republique. Afterwards, take a walking tour of the lovely “La Petite France” neighborhood, where you will see the Gothic cathedral with its famous astronomical clock. The remainder of the day is yours to spend as you wish. The ship moors overnight. (B,L,D)
You have two exciting excursions to choose from today. The first is a walking tour of Riquewihr, a picturesque town that looks much as it did back in the 16th century. A second option is a walking tour of Breisach and Freiburg. Breisach is a beautiful town that houses one of Europe’s largest wine cellars. In Freiburg, you will visit the historical city center and the Augustinerplatz, site of Freiburg’s Münster, a Gothic cathedral constructed of red sandstone. Tonight, the ship cruises to Switzerland. (B,L,D)
Disembark after breakfast. (B)

The Beautiful Rhine

The stunningly beautiful Rhine River Valley has long been a paradise for wine lovers. Steeped in legend and myth, in a region rich in fairytale castles, the Rhine Valley – the heartland of the Holy Roman Empire – has more castles than in any other river valley in the world. Many have survived the ravages of war, neglect and time, and stand like sentinels on the cliffs above quaint riverside villages.

Your cruise itinerary takes you through two of the most celebrated wine regions in Europe. You will sample Rieslings and other distinctive light white wines at various wineries, including some of Germany’s oldest and most renowned vineyards. Further north, savor the vin d’Alsace and explore picture-book hamlets at your leisure, meandering along narrow cobbled streets worn from centuries of use.

Wineries abound throughout the Rhine Valley and you will have many opportunities to experience the flavorful products of local viticulteurs all along the river. Back on board, relax with friends, take in the breathtaking scenery and allow yourself to slip backwards in time, pulled along by the silver thread of the gently flowing Rhine.

A Special Note from the Owners

The question that I am often asked is what makes Coyote Canyon Wines special.

I always say it starts in the vineyard. We have put 23 years of Love & passion into developing Coyote Canyon Vineyard. Each year we try to draw upon knowledge we have gained from past vintages. We have worked with a large number of wineries over the years from each we have been able to glean ideas and incorporate them in our farming techniques. The most important thing is to complete each task in the vineyard and winery in a timely fashion. There are so many challenges that effect timing- labor, weather, finances, and regulations.

We are blessed to be in the center of the Horse Heaven Hills AVA. The terroir adds it distinction to our wines. Our reds are known for their body and long velvety silky tannins.

The overall vineyard has a gradual southeast facing slope which is ideal for red wine grapes. However, we have a number of other smaller facing aspects that help to create a number of smaller micro-climates that allow us to successfully grow many other varieties. Coyote Canyon Winery got its name because of the canyon that cuts through the center of the vineyard. This Canyon helps to create some of these different aspects.

Let’s not forget the Love and Passion of our winemaker, Justin, for creating these great wines. He has poured his heart, energy and creativity into these wines. The quality of each wine is consistent and amazing as shown by the 5 double gold medals and 4 gold medals awarded to Coyote Canyon at last year’s Tri-Cities wine awards.  I believe this March Wine Club shipment to be our best ever.  My favorite wine is the 2012 H/H Estates Robert Andrews Mourvedre.

This is the 10 year anniversary of Coyote Canyon Winery. It was on Mother’s day 2006 we 1st opened our doors for business in downtown Prosser. We have evolved with several changes including our location to our current site. As proud as we are of our Vineyard and Winery we are equally proud of our wine club members. All of the staff at the winery are passionate about our wines and sharing them with you.

Cale Moon will provide music for our March 12th Wine Club pick up. Marti and I look forward to visiting and sharing in the fun of this pickup party.

Watch your Coyote Canyon Winery Calendar for 2016, under Jeriann’s direction, we look forward to some great fun as we celebrate our 10 year anniversary.

Barrel to Blend ~ Art of Wine Blending

Discover the Winemaker in you! This unique experience will deepen your knowledge of the art of blending wine.

Our winemaker Justin Michaud will lead you through barrel samples of Rhone varietals to create a custom red wine blend. Blending wine is a chance to make a wine transform into something more beautiful than what it was to begin with, an important final stage in the winemaking process.  It is up to the winemaker to understand all the characteristics of the vineyard, grape varieties involved and the different barrels. So as you can see, blending wine is no easy task, it is a skill which once perfected becomes an art.  Come and learn as you create your own personal blend.  This is an experience you will not forget.  Wine Party 2
